In the 1960s, he studied with Oskar Kokoschka in Salzburg, developing an expressionist and chromatic style. He also worked in experimental film with his brother Victor. From 1973, he taught painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. He received numerous awards, including the silver medal for lifetime achievement in 2003. He died in 2013 in Trebiano.
