The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a constant aspiration for painters. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. Stefano Benech is a renowned painter from Savona who focused his research on hunting themes but also distinguished himself with a notable landscape production characterized by a lyrical interpretation of the places of his native Liguria.

Stefano Benech's landscapes are always executed with a remarkable Impressionist technique. The artist uses rapid, synthetic brushstrokes to quickly delineate shapes and volumes. This allows him to capture, with every single brushstroke, the effects of light and atmosphere on objects, and to instantly convey the Ligurian landscape with precise weather and environmental conditions to the canvas. The entire color palette, from the meadow to the sky, is designed to reflect the precise atmospheric conditions he seeks to represent in a perfect conception of plein air painting. As with the Impressionists, the perspective grid is not eliminated; spatial depth is determined exclusively through the modulations of color. Benech's synthetic approach is distinguished by an extraordinary use of light, where a clear and limpid atmosphere is balanced by an evocative play of shadows.

Stefano Benech was a painter from Savona, born in 1884 and died in 1978.
