As we can see in this work, the representation is stripped down to the essentials, and the subject appears as a silhouette against a dynamic background. An expressionistic aspect thus prevails in Tonelli's pictorial language, evident also in the way the figure is deformed and unnaturally elongated. This expressionism takes on a decidedly symbolic character in the mystical dimension perceived in this work. In the 1970s, he made his research public by participating in numerous events and exhibitions. Since the 1980s, however, he has rarely participated in exhibitions, instead participating primarily in performances. He uses a variety of techniques and styles with great ease. Over the past ten years, he has exhibited in prestigious venues in Rome, Milan, New York, Berlin, Paris, Hamburg, Madrid, and Lisbon.
