It is quite common for contemporary artists to treat the iconography of motherhood without directly linking it to the Christian religion.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\n \u003cp\u003eAs we can see, in this lithograph, Tullio Ravenda maintains a balance between figuration and abstraction. The connection between the sensory data and the subject of motherhood is strong, through the bold line, but the execution transcends phenomenal reality. The drawing, with its sinuous rhythm, creates a perfect fusion between the two subjects, ideally celebrating the theme of union. The composition is entirely in the foreground and occupies the entire graphic space. The writing is essentially synthetic and structural, exploiting the expressive potential of the line in enhancing the plastic qualities of the two figures.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\n \u003cp\u003eTullio Ravenda, born in Verona in 1928 and passed away in Milan in 2014, studied first at the Istituto Statale d'Arte and then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, where he studied painting under Virgilio Guidi and engraving under Giorgio Morandi.
