valeriano-trubbiani-il-drago
Valeriano Trubbiani - The Dragon

The work is titled "The Dragon" and explores one of Valeriano Trubbiani's most cherished themes. The artist depicts a world of violence and war, sometimes set within a fairytale and folkloric context. This work combines his narrative flair with his philosophy, which holds that art should create wounds in the soul that heal through a new contemplation of the world, a jolt that leads to rethinking.

The painting's style is typical of Trubbiani's visual poetics. It presents us with a highly distinctive and angular style, seemingly a transposition of his war sculptures with a brush. It creates a blend of dark colors, a dark and dramatic atmosphere. A skilled illustrator, he here demonstrates his full drawing expertise, but where he often depicts animals in minute detail, here a whole emerges that is revealed in conjunction with the painting's title, helping us to correctly interpret the thoughtful combination of full and empty areas that juxtapose to create an overall idea. Only in this way can we correctly interpret the menacing skeletal protagonist.

Valeriano Trubbiani was born in Macerata in 1937. From a young age, he developed a passion for art in all its forms and began working with metal in his father's workshop in the 1950s. In 1956, he graduated from the Art Institute of Macerata and soon after began exhibiting his first paintings and sculptures in solo shows. Later, in 1959, he moved to Rome to attend the Academy of Fine Arts. In the 1960s, he intensified his sculpture production, working in his father's workshop, and combined it with set design and graphic design. During these years, his visual poetics developed, for which art must provoke wounds, and he therefore explored themes such as besieged cities, the cruelty of technology, bestiaries, and fairy tales that deal with elements of war situations. In the following years, he participated in various national and international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadriennale. In the 1980s, he embarked on a series dedicated to "Stories of the Sea." He later became a professor of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Macerata, but declined the appointment as its director. The master passed away in 2020.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0909/7065/3058/files/valeriano-trubbiani-tecnica-olio-su-tavola-misure-46x68-titolo-il-drago.jpg?v=1768477777
