vittorio-brevi-composizione
Vittorio Brevi - Composition

Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has always been an artist's aspiration. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

The painter Vittorio Brevi developed a highly distinctive and recognizable style in his landscape compositions. Close to the Spatialist movement, Brevi's representation of the energies raging in tangible reality is expressed through a reconstruction of the world according to geometric and rational principles. Formally, therefore, there is a complete adherence to the mechanomorphism of the Cubists, or rather, the Neo-Futurists. The composition, therefore, is constructed on clean lines and pure forms that indicate the energetic fields inherent in Spatialist research.

Vittorio Brevi (Pontoglio, 1927 – Milan, 2003) moved to Milan in the late 1950s, where he trained as an artist in the Brera district. During this period, he refined his technique by engaging with the Spatialist movement and met artists such as Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni, and Daniele Oppi. Beginning in the 1960s, he began holding solo exhibitions and participating in group exhibitions of both Italian and international standing. Among these was his 1969 exhibition at the Caravan House of East and West Gallery in New York. In 1973, he participated in the Manifesto Spatialista Futuribile group exhibition at the Centro Braidense. In 1974, some of his works were included in the 21st International Exhibition of Nuclear and Aerospace Electronics. In the following years, he exhibited in various cities, including Milan, Brescia, and Como, and his works were featured in numerous trade and non-trade magazines, including the authoritative New York Times.
