Scenes of city life became typical themes with a more realistic interpretation starting in the 19th century. It's worth remembering how, immediately following the realist movements of the 19th century, the Impressionists also placed great emphasis on the everyday, on everyday life, with a certain predilection, however, for the frenetic pace of the city, its crowds, traffic, and typically bourgeois settings.

In Michele Volpicella's artistic production, the urban landscape becomes a pure aesthetic pleasure. Reality is synthesized and altered in favor of composition and dynamic linear and chromatic rhythms. Regarding color, Volpicella always follows rules of harmony and balance in the distribution of hues, ensuring coherence and uniformity in the work.

Michele Volpicella was born in 1955 and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bari. He specialized in experimental engraving lessons from Hector Saunier and in the watercolor and calligraphy techniques of Chinese master Zhang Huinan.
