In 1907, the artist returned to his hometown. The master he looked to was Benjamin Williams Leader, another important English landscape painter who became a member of the Royal Academy of Arts, known for his river landscapes, primarily in oils. W.H. Mander exhibited his work regularly at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists from 1881 to 1914, including rural landscapes and river scenes. He also exhibited at the Royal Cambrian Academy and the Royal Hibernian Academy.
