zoran-tokovic-paesaggio-dinverno
Zoran Tokovic - Winter Landscape

Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a constant aspiration for painters. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century; up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. Specifically in our work, the type of subject and the mode of representation are typical of naive art. The naive artist does not associate himself with any particular artistic movement but finds inspiration within himself. Stylistically, this translates into figurative painting that offers a simplified interpretation of reality, with infantile and consciously primitivist overtones. However, even the naive artist, in his spontaneity, possesses his own awareness that leads him to develop a very specific aesthetic language, distinguishing it from amateurism.

The style of painter Zoran Tokovic places great importance on color and its application, which plays a significant structural role. The composition, in fact, rests on a very marked drawing line, but it is the brushstrokes that then build the volumes of the subjects with dense touches of color, sinuous lines, and more subtle, calligraphic interventions. All this creates a highly dynamic rhythm in the composition, thanks precisely to the fluidity of the application. Most notable and distinctive in Tokovic's work is the quality of his palette, composed of bright, luminous hues, which seems to satisfy a certain expressionistic desire on the part of the painter. This expressionistic desire is linked to the artist's naive tendencies, who, in his simplification of reality, is drawn to represent the world in a vision with fairy-tale, dreamy overtones.

Zoran Tokovic was born in Zrenjanin, Serbia, in 1956 and studied Fine Arts at the Pedagogical Academy in Rijeka.
