Description of the work
Description of the work
This work is part of a series in which the painter A. Tassi pays homage to his great masters by painting small mixed-media panels reproducing details from famous works. In this painting, Tassi pays homage to Paul Gauguin, not by citing a specific work, but by revisiting its themes and stylistic language.
In this figure of a fisherman, Tassi fully respects Paul Gauguin's model. The reference to Symbolist art is evident in the way the figure and the landscape are depicted generically, stripped of their individual and particular features, to take on an iconic character. The representation thus transcends the contingent to take on broader meanings. Formally, a sinuous line defines simple, clear volumes. The color is applied, of course, with a Gauguin-like compact flat brush. Even the palette, composed of brown and sunny tones, is consistent with Gauguin's entire oeuvre.
A. Tassi, the artist who created this work, is distinguished by his excellent painting technique. He practices very classical and traditional genres, especially landscapes. However, his excellent technique allows him to create compositions inspired by the great masters of the past.
