Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consisted of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to experiment with naturalistic or photographic reproductions of reality, with contemporary art, the "Still Life" also became a way of interpreting reality. Indeed, as happened, for example, in the Cubist avant-garde or in Giorgio Morandi, the in-depth exploration of objects was aimed at a conceptual representation, taken beyond the mere sensory aspect.
Artist Abdul Rahem Tatari's aim is to offer a simplified interpretation of reality, seeking new values of purity in representation. For this reason, his pictorial approach can be described as naïve, yet it is expressed through a highly classical and traditional approach. His language, in fact, is essentially figurative and finds its fullest expression in his famous folkloristic scenes. However, the artist manages to infuse tradition with his originality and personal touch, precisely through his quest for purity of representation that defines his style. Concretely, this is expressed in a loose technique, which resolves objects with a dense and concrete layering. Thus, even in simplicity and purity, Tatari manages to enhance the formal values typical of still life. From a chromatic perspective, Tatari's characteristic palette of bright and vibrant colors prevails.
Abdul Rahem Tatari is a Syrian-born painter whose art is primarily inspired by ethnic subjects, which he depicts with the spontaneity of a naive language. In some cases, he ventures into more abstract experimentation, based on colorful geometric compositions.
