Description of the work
Description of the work
A noble animal, a symbol of beauty and harmony, the horse has repeatedly been a prominent subject in the history of art. Since the fourteenth century, its presence has always been obligatory in battle scenes and equestrian monuments, and painters have always found it a challenge to depict it with anatomical precision and naturalistic rendering.
In the history of art, a clear distinction can often be made between figurative and abstract stylistic movements. However, when an artist's goal is to represent an object that resonates with phenomenal reality but is simultaneously charged with hidden and symbolic meaning, this boundary can become blurred. Symbolism and Expressionism are emblematic stylistic movements in their conceptual interpretation of reality, with an iconic rendering of images and a symbolic interpretation in the use of color. In this painting, Tatari departs from his usual figurative style to reach one of his experimental peaks, achieving a composition that borders on abstraction. It is clear that this painting owes much to a Cubist-inspired decomposition of reality. The subjects are the result of an intersection of colored planes that reconstruct reality with the geometric rationality and lively irony of a Paul Klee.
Abdul Rahem Tatari is a Syrian painter whose art is primarily inspired by ethnic subjects, which he depicts with the spontaneity of a naive language. In some cases, he ventures into more abstract experimentation, based on colorful geometric compositions.
