Description of the work
Description of the work
Surrealist aesthetics emerged around the 1920s and encompassed all fields of artistic research. Specifically, in the visual arts, Surrealism sought to explore the human subconscious and translate it into artwork through a mechanical writing process based on dream analysis. Consequently, Surrealist artworks propose the representation of a dreamlike dimension, completely dissociated from reality. However, this representation often relies on a hyperrealistic formal rendering, precisely to paradoxically accentuate the illusory and ambiguous nature of the surreal dimension.
In this surrealistic work, artist Achille Pecoraro demonstrates a keen awareness of his influence. Indeed, both in subject matter and execution, he follows the cues of the historical Surrealist avant-garde. The scene is set in a desolate land, where classicist-geometric references are juxtaposed with heterogeneous, predominantly biomorphic elements. Even in terms of form, Achille Pecoraro leans toward a dry and objective hyperrealism in this work, lucid in his exaltation of the objects' plastic qualities. In this sense, the artist demonstrates a remarkable pictorial technique, which allows him to achieve the deliberately ambiguous quality typical of Surrealist aesthetics.
Achille Pecoraro is originally from Gela, but settled in Genoa, in the hamlet of Borzoli. His works have been reviewed by leading critics and are held in numerous public and private collections. He has participated in numerous exhibitions, including those outside Italy.
