Description of the work
Description of the work
The devastation wrought by World War II left a profound mark on Western civilization, which in the visual arts also resulted in an inability to communicate. For some artists, this challenge led to a complete rejection of any visual language, which led to the birth of Informal Art. The various Informal movements are certainly connected to American Abstract Expressionism, especially with regard to the gestural component, but they go further in their rejection of any figurative element, even geometric. Their exploration focuses instead on the materials from which their works are composed.
Ada Mazzei's artistic research has led to a coherent and accomplished informal language. For Ada Mazzei, the work is a space in which to give form to what her unconscious communicates, making it visible and tangible. And this submerged world comes to life through the artist's brushstrokes, color, and materials. Stylistically, all this is expressed in an apparently cold and predominantly monochrome informal style in shades of red. Yet on these surfaces, the artist's instinct comes to life in a balanced interplay of fades, flashes, and varying textures.
Ada Mazzei doesn't falsify emotions: she neither conceals nor simulates them. After twenty years of artistic silence, barely touching a paintbrush, but evidently storing images, sensations, colors, and shapes, Ada Mazzei's work is astonishing, not only for the quantity of her canvases, not only for her courage in tackling large-scale works, but also because she suddenly presents herself as an artist with a consolidated technique and a confident style, capable of revealing the beauty of reality, filtering it through her sensitive gaze.
