Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

In Agostino Cancogni's works, the subject is always a landscape where flowers and their colors dominate. This type of floral view allows the artist to unleash his full chromatic flair in a composition where an impressionistic stylistic register is taken to its extreme. Cancogni begins, first and foremost, by synthesizing the subject, which is achieved through simplification and the emptying of plasticity with an elegant system of thin lines. The painter renders the vibrant chromaticism through effervescent spray effects, achieving a highly lyrical depiction of the landscape.

Agostino Cancogni was born in Forte dei Marmi in 1950. He graduated from the Art School and then attended the Academy of Sculpture. His first exhibition was in 1970 at the Galleria Orlando in Forte dei Marmi. He has held numerous solo exhibitions in Italy and abroad, participated in art fairs, and appeared on major television programs. His works are held in collections in Italy and abroad.
