Description of the work
Description of the work
The aesthetic of Aiiroh's work spans Pop Art, Street Art, and the poetics of the object. The work is inspired by the quintessential symbol of consumption, the logo, transformed into a work of art. In his artistic practice, therefore, the object itself, a massified emblem of consumer society, becomes a work recontextualized by the artist. At the same time, all this presupposes a meditation on the styles of mass communication and the language of advertising, which places Aiiroh's research within the realm of Pop Art.
Even in the series of logos, such as this work that physically reproduces the Chanel logo, we can see how different aesthetics and visual languages overlap in Aiiroh's work. The logo, a quintessential mass-produced object, is reworked by the artist in an extraordinary pop and street art guise. It is transformed into a sculpture, and this sculptural reworking is also overlaid with the artist's gesture, which, in keeping with the poetics of New Dada, defiles the object, transforming it into a unique work.
Born in Narbonne in 1987, Aiiroh is a French artist. At a young age, he began graffiti in train stations in various cities, places where artists easily had access to large walls. In the early 2000s, he was introduced to stenciling, which allowed him to create art more quickly on the street. With the guidance of a friend, he eventually discovered the work of "affichisti" (painters) such as Raymond Hains, Villeglé, Dufrêne, and Rotella. In some of his works, Aiiroh incorporates brands to remind people of human dependence on consumer products. The anarchy of the dripping and the turbulence of the compositions contrast with the pure lines of the brand logo, as well as the famous "LOVE" by American artist Indiana. For several years, he has exhibited in around twenty galleries in France and abroad (Switzerland, Italy, the United Kingdom, Greece, Israel, the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan).
