Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consists of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art the "Still Life" also becomes a way of interpreting reality, as it did for the Cubists or Giorgio Morandi.
The style of the Ambrosini brothers, Alberto and Massimo, in their still lifes, landscapes, and portraits from life, seems to tend toward hyperrealism. Indeed, one notices a desire to objectively convey to canvas, with cold lucidity, the sensory data before their eyes. They both possess a remarkable technique reminiscent of Flemish painting, in the precision with which they reproduce various materials and the effects of light falling on them. Despite their objective clarity and while avoiding overly accentuated atmospheric effects, the Ambrosinis' technique is such that objects are naturally inserted into space, with a continuity and indefiniteness of contours.
The Ambrosinis are a family of painters originally from Vigevano. Massimo and Alberto are Gino's sons. They practice figurative painting with a tendency toward hyperrealism. Their artistic language is so objective that it reaches a level of apparent illusion, rendering their works almost metaphysical.
