Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consisted of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to experiment with naturalistic or photographic reproductions of reality, with contemporary art, the "Still Life" also became a way of interpreting reality. Indeed, as happened, for example, in the Cubist avant-garde or in Giorgio Morandi, the in-depth exploration of objects was aimed at a conceptual representation, taken beyond the mere sensory aspect.
The painter Aldo Lanciano has a unique vision of the world that we can recognize in all his works. He seeks to go beyond the mere sensory data to delve deeper into reality. This is evident in his still lifes, even more than in his typical female figures. Like his women, the figures swell, taking on concrete, rounded volumes, seeking a full exaltation of form. Furthermore, the same volumes are depicted on different planes and from multiple viewpoints (recalling Picasso and Cubism) to provide a comprehensive representation that goes beyond the mere vision of the subject. Even the space that accommodates the objects, created by Lanciano, is not univocal, but constructed from different perspectives.
Aldo Lanciano is a Ligurian artist born in 1942. He studied with Melani, Mariotti, Cappellini, Cordigiani, and Bartolini, and became an important painter and printmaker. Lanciano is famous for his works inspired by a Cubo-Surrealist aesthetic, featuring women with opulent forms and enigmatic faces.
