Description of the work
Description of the work
A noble animal, a symbol of beauty and harmony, the horse has repeatedly been a prominent subject in the history of art. Since the fourteenth century, its presence has always been obligatory in battle scenes and equestrian monuments, and painters have always found it a challenge to depict it with anatomical precision and naturalistic rendering.
In this work, artist Aldo Riso abandons his more usual subjects, dedicated to Apulian landscapes, but maintains the same undiminished elegance of drawing and color. This is yet another accomplished example of the sober and elegant realism that is the trademark of the painter from Santa Maria di Leuca. Extraordinary precision of detail is achieved on the paper with a keen, objective eye, and watercolor washes are used to make the composition fresher and more vibrant.
Aldo Riso, born in Santa Maria di Leuca in 1928 and passed away in Rome in 2008, was an artist from Puglia who made his homeland his favorite subject, portraying it with a refined watercolor technique. This earned him extraordinary popularity. His career began with his first exhibition in 1956, and he subsequently exhibited his works not only in Italy but also in Cologne, Berlin, Vienna, Paris, Philadelphia, Belgrade, Athens, Barcelona, Madrid, Montreal, Toronto, New York, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Asuncion, and South Africa.
