Description of the work
Description of the work
The work draws on a pop aesthetic in its use of stereotypical images or their mechanical reproduction. Pop Art was born in the United States in the second half of the 20th century as a result of artists' interest in and criticism of the contemporary "consumer society." All expressions of Pop Art presuppose a sort of double bond with the world of consumerism and the mass media. On the one hand, the artwork is reduced to a mere consumer product, thanks to the use of advertising or comic book language in the works and their serial reproduction through mechanical processes. On the other, the advertising images and consumer goods themselves become works of art, as the most genuine and truthful expression of the new society. Aleandro Roncarà's artistic production is inspired by a pop aesthetic with particular attention to the world of comics. The comic book language, a key feature of this artist's works, is used to create surreal compositions that are strongly reminiscent of the work of Keith Haring.
In this work, the artist's attention is focused on a single character from the many that populate his imaginary world. All the hallmarks of Aleandro Roncarà's signature language are present, however, as the comic book style is fully translated into a pictorial dimension. The subject's caricatured and imaginative features are captured with a thick black line that creates rounded shapes. The color scheme, featuring bold hues, is compact. Beyond its technical prowess, Roncarà's skill must be measured by his creative ability to bring fun, character-filled characters to life with minimal graphic means, truly transforming the comic book pop image into a complete work.
Aleandro Roncarà was born in Orbetello in 1967. A former professional basketball player, he opened a studio in 1992. He spent a long time drawing comics and cartoons, eventually deciding to transfer this creativity to painting. He thus created a planet inhabited by his characters called "Mondorondo." Aleandro Roncarà recently exhibited at the Terrazza Aperol and at the Circle in Milan. He had a solo show in Pisa, in the building above the Logge, around the same time as the Warhol exhibition. He has participated twice in the AAF, the Affordable Art Fair in downtown Milan.
