Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
This painting is an excellent example of Alessandro Tettamanti's artistic language. He doesn't see landscape painting as a description of reality but rather as a piece of poetry. For this reason, his views focus on a combination of lines and layers of paint from which he derives an extremely harmonious and balanced composition. The transfiguration of reality into lyricism also involves a reduction of details to extract, with an expressionist approach, the essence of perceived things. Thus, the small village and the surrounding countryside are rendered in a layering of pure, clear colors. In this transposition of reality to the purity of emotion, the application of paint obviously plays a fundamental role. Indeed, the paint is essential in imbuing objects with profound vibrations that almost seem to corrode the surface of things. Vibrations that are luminous and atmospheric, but also, and above all, vital.
Alessandro Tettamanti was born in Tradate in 1952. He has held solo exhibitions in Cassano Magnago, Castelseprio, Pregnana Milanese, Porto Ceresio, and Tradate. His work features a shifting and anti-heroic Lombard landscape, a fluid countryside that comes to life within his canvases: glimpses of landscapes colored by stillness, clouds, and clear skies, far from the city.
