Description of the work
Description of the work
Portraiture is one of the most widespread artistic expressions, especially in painting, but also in sculpture, throughout the ages. Portraiture is, first and foremost, a description of the subject depicted, an attempt to capture their physiognomy and individual characteristics truthfully and naturally. With the progressive evolution of artistic research, the physiognomic description of the subject has also been accompanied by a psychological one. Therefore, over the centuries, portraiture has also become a means of introspective investigation of the subject, their character, and their state of mind. The processes of abstraction brought about by contemporary art have contributed to this type of investigation.
Alfio Presotto's style, in most of his work, tends toward hyperrealism. Indeed, the painter's desire to objectively convey to the canvas, with cold lucidity, the sensory data he sees before his eyes. The artist also demonstrates a fine technique, reminiscent of Flemish painting, in the precision with which he reproduces various materials and the effects of light falling on them. However, he also does not shy away from certain painterly effects that softly blur the objects in his work.
Alfio Presotto is a Venetian painter born in 1940. He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and, in 1960, joined the Realism group in Milan. He has exhibited his paintings in numerous shows and festivals throughout Italy and beyond. In 1969, he exhibited at the USALBA exhibition in Milan, at the Salotto Rossini in Pesaro in 1970, and at the Salon Art Libre in Paris in 1974. In 1975, he exhibited at the Art Gallery of San Francisco and from 1989 to 1992 in Bergamo. In 2001-2002, he exhibited at Expoart in Montichiari and at Contemporanea Arte Forlì. In 2000-2002, he exhibited at the Galleria D'Ambrosio in Brescia, and in 2002 he participated in the exhibition “Il corpo e lo sguardo” at the Palazzo Ducale di Revere, Mantua.
