Description of the work
Description of the work
Flowers, or plants in general, as independent subjects, began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the world of flowers and plants, as they offered an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers and plants were depicted not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers and plants also became a way of interpreting reality.

The style of artist Alfio Rapisardi is the result of a refined blend of tradition and avant-garde. Alfio Rapisardi's research draws on the tradition of Italian painting, specifically Tuscan Renaissance art, but he adapts this tradition to entirely contemporary representational themes. The legacy of the Renaissance in Alfio Rapisardi is found in the rational spirit that guides the development of his compositions. Rapisardi's works are the result of a perfect balance of shapes and colors, arranged with a profound sense of geometry. Within the overall structure of the work, everything is governed by a rational spirit, but this rationality is also expressed in a thorough analysis of the subjects that draws on contemporary artistic influences. Indeed, the objects are broken down, almost laid out in a complex space that harks back to Cubism. Furthermore, everything is subjected to a remarkable synthesis that abstracts the forms, always in the same geometric and rationalist spirit that characterizes all of Alfio Rapisardi's work.
Alfio Rapisardi was a Florentine artist born in 1929 and passed away in 2018. His career officially began in 1956 with a solo exhibition at the Strozzina gallery. In 1960 and 1962, he participated in the Fiorino exhibition. He won the competition to create the altarpiece for the Scolopi church. His works are exhibited at the Kessel Museum alongside artists such as Gauguin, Cézanne, and Picasso.
