Alfredo Giampaolini - Material Geometry

The work draws on an Informal aesthetic language. The devastation wrought by World War II left a profound mark on Western civilization, which in the visual arts also resulted in an inability to communicate. For some artists, this challenge led to a complete rejection of any visual language, resulting in the birth of Informal Art. The various Informal movements are certainly connected to American Abstract Expressionism, especially with regard to the gestural component, but they go further in their rejection of any figurative element, even geometric. Their research focuses instead on the material from which their works are composed.

In this work, the artist Alfredo Giampaolini seems to be adopting an informal language very similar to the historical French Art Brut of Fautrier and Dubuffet. In this composition, it is interpreted entirely detached from any figurative language. Furthermore, in the composition's creation, a material element prevails, which, though gilded, is worked in a deliberately rough manner. Everything, therefore, focuses on the artist's gesture and his creative will, which is expressed on the surface of the canvas.

Alfredo Giampaolini was born in L'Aquila in 1960 and recently became interested in art. He loves to capture his emotions, exaggerating the material aspects of his works. Giampaolini uses everything he has at his disposal, seeking to combine it in original and imaginative ways.
