Description of the work
Description of the work
The title of the work before us is "Cavalry Clashes." Battle scenes have been a recurring subject throughout history since ancient times; just think of the mosaic of the Battle of Issus, housed in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, and its developments. Let's not forget the works of Piero della Francesca and the famous battle scenes in the Salone dei Cinquecento. Whether executed for celebratory, historiographical, or narrative purposes, battle paintings remained popular until the Romantic era of 19th-century historical painting.
The battles painted by Alfredo Nannoni are characterised by the artist's highly personal interpretation of the theme. It's a subject he's perfected, creating several works, and it's distinguished by a teeming mass of colors. He applies a combination of brushstrokes that are as synthesized as they come, almost bordering on abstraction. Thanks to these quick touches that give a vibrant surface to the scene, he manages to visually convey the turbulence of the act of war.
Alfredo Nannoni was born in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa in 1945. His works are held in important collections both in Italy and abroad. He has exhibited his paintings in numerous shows. Nannoni specializes in battle scenes, which he always interprets with a highly personal style that elegantly and dynamically highlights the drama of wartime events.
