Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been an artist's aspiration throughout the centuries. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Alvaro Peppoloni's artistic practice, especially in his landscape painting, draws heavily from medieval art and from 14th- and 15th-century frescoes, from which he also borrows techniques and pigments. Indeed, in his compositions we find a purity of line, a geometric rationalism that abstracts the perceptible world into a decidedly metaphysical vision. Peppoloni reinterprets this purity and essentiality of lines and volumes in his own original vision, informed by a more contemporary sensibility. In his works, therefore, the sense of abstraction increases, as does the expressive value and complexity of his pictorial approach. This is evident in the palette of this painter, who favors bold polychromes that detach themselves from phenomenological reality to acquire a definitively spiritual value.
Born in Spello in 1951, Alvaro Peppoloni is a painter who lives and works in Castel Ritaldi. Peppoloni uses the fresco technique, declaring his preference for it "for the pleasure of the undefined nature of things, the possibility of glimpses and imaginations; and for the sense of experience that the work conveys." For the artist, painting means being able to communicate his emotions through the canvas. It means being able to relive his happy childhood through color, and recount his moments of solitude through the metaphysical image of a farmhouse and nature.
