Description of the work
Description of the work
The subject has been part of art history for centuries. Historically and culturally, the horse is often associated with energy and movement, as well as symbolizing power and authority. In the contemporary era, numerous artists have attempted to depict this animal, such as Marino Martini, who explored the emotional and physical dimensions of the horse through sculptures and drawings that capture the beauty of its form and harmony; Franz Marc, who uses the horse to explore themes of psychology and spirituality; and, more recently, Anselm Kiefer, who uses the animal to explore complex themes of historical and mythological memory.
In this work, Cheriet Amar is fully dynamic, remaining consistent with her figurative language, focusing on a frenetic design. The artist's wild and free-spirited drawing is in keeping with her characteristics, in which Arabian horses, her passion, are depicted with a well-calibrated plasticity. Their beauty is undoubtedly also highlighted by the graphic art she employs.
Amar Cheriet was born in Tebessa, Algeria in 1939. He studied drawing and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tunis. In 1961, he moved to Rome, where he continued his studies and graduated a few years later in 1967, graduating in decoration and scenography. Throughout his artistic career, he participated in various competitions in Italy and France, including winning the Paris Painting Prize. His works have been exhibited in New York and at the Paris Biennale. He also held a solo exhibition in Boston and exhibited at the Galleria San Silvestro in Rio de Janeiro alongside artists such as De Chirico and Guttuso.
