Description of the work
Description of the work
The codex by the Mantuan Filippo Cavriani (new accessions 329, large formats 64), dated Paris, post 1584 for the drafting of the text, is preserved at the National Central Library of Florence (facsimile edition and commentary 2010).
Discovered by the doctor and librarian Giovanni Targioni Tozzetti, who examined it in 1752 at the library of Giovanni Giraldi (dispersed during the 19th century), the codex was acquired by the National Central Library of Florence in 1912.
The work of the Mantuan nobleman Filippo Cavriani, who between the mid-16th and early 17th centuries combined his knowledge of humanae litterae with that of ars medica, collects in its pages the accounts of the author's clinical and autopsy experiences, constituting an exceptional document in the scientific and artistic panorama of the time.
