Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; up to the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. Andrea Quarto's pictorial production can be defined as a neo-naturalism in which landscape,
often inspired by the painter's travels in the desert, it takes on surreal tones.
Artist Andrea Quarto has developed his own unique approach to landscape, particularly landscapes rich in exotic influences. To express the complex sensations arising from his travels in Africa, the artist relies on vibrant polychromes that completely transcend reality. Color thus takes on an emotional and spiritual significance. Formally, too, Andrea Quarto's works lean toward a surrealist aesthetic, with his deliberately illusory depiction of palm trees and the excessive rationalism of urban agglomerations rendered in pure geometric solids.
Andrea Quarto was born in Lucca in 1959. At the age of twenty-six, he crossed the Sahara Desert. His works feature lush vegetation bursting out of the sand. The artist's work clearly reveals a personal, neo-naturalistic style. In Andrea Quarto's work, the landscape takes on surreal overtones, and the images acquire a unique sensorial quality.
