Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Andrea Zucchi's artistic research focuses primarily on the exaltation of plasticity, even in a classic subject like a landscape. Formally, this translates primarily into a rigorous composition, based on a solid drawing structure that seeks depth and concreteness. The clean lines of this framework are arranged in a rigorous yet very natural composition. Andrea Zucchi's figures appear sharply delineated within the volumes of the objects. However, the formal exaltation Zucchi seeks does not lead to a cold and objective hyperrealism. Rather, his application is highly painterly, dynamic with iridescent tones, and this brings his figures to life, vibrant with existential energy. Andrea Zucchi's true stylistic signature is, rather, the saturation of color, which we can observe even in a naturalistic painting like this one.
Andrea Zucchi was born in Milan in 1964. Despite studying philosophy and an initial penchant for literature, he eventually succumbed to a passion for drawing and painting. His initial influences were De Chirico and Bacon, though the allure of the classics was irresistible. His intellectual exploration led him to delve into the classics of world mysticism, convinced that underlying them lies a sort of universal religion, characterized by recurring and consistent elements over time. This led him to create several series combining images from various cultures.
His results therefore always have an aspect of mystery and fascination that cannot be expressed in words.
