Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

In this landscape, Angela Occhipinti achieves, through the medium of painting, a delicate fusion between naturalistic rendering and poetry. Indeed, reality seems transfigured into a lyrical interpretation that almost transports it into a dreamlike dimension. Formally, this translates into a highly delicate pictorial style where reality is represented in a rarefied manner. This means that the capture of realistic details and particulars is lost in favor of a more expressionistic and symbolic language. Angela Occhipinti's refined painterly touch plays a key role in this process, as she delicately synthesizes objects. The color palette is also distinguished by a delicate anti-naturalistic tendency, whereby the immersion in white and the exaltation of violets expresses the artist's poetic sensibility and her almost dreamlike interpretation of the landscape.
Angela Occhipinti was born in Perugia and lives and works in Milan. She studied in Florence and graduated in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts. She specialized in graphic arts and engraving techniques. In 1958, she moved to Milan. She worked with Lucio Fontana, with whom she gained complementary experience in ceramics at Martinotti's workshop and in engraving at Giorgio Upiglio's. Since 1968, she has had solo exhibitions at Milan's most important galleries, including Galleria Marconi, Galleria Seno, and Studio Grossetti. In 1974, she became Professor of Engraving Techniques at the Academy of Fine Arts in Macerata, and since 1978, she has held the Chair of Engraving Techniques at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brera (Milan). She has been invited to teach engraving techniques at numerous universities around the world. Her works are held in important private collections and modern art museums in Italy and abroad.
