Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
The artist Angiolino Paglia stands out for his landscape painting, in which he seeks distinctive views, imbued with a distinctive lyricism. Hence his penchant for picturesque views and evocative framing. Formally, this translates into a highly animated and dynamic style that ensures freshness and immediacy of execution, clearly inspired by Impressionism. His brushstrokes are therefore characterized by a remarkably cursive touch, made up of sudden flickers that effectively capture the vibrations of light on objects. This is particularly evident in the concise rendering of the flowers and vegetation in the background. The entire composition is imbued with a calm realism and a freshness deriving from the artist's technical prowess.
Angiolino Paglia, born in 1925 in Torrile, also known as the "Left-Handed Man of Salsomaggiore," was a self-taught impressionist. In 1975, one of his works was purchased during a visit to Salsomaggiore by the famous scientist Albert Bruce Sabin, the inventor of the polio vaccine. Angiolino Paglia devoted himself primarily to landscape painting, with a highly lyrical vision of phenomenal reality. His seminal work focuses on translating emotions into images through a highly animated and cursive style inspired by impressionism.
