Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consists of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art the "Still Life" also becomes a way of interpreting reality, as it did for the Cubists or Giorgio Morandi.
The painter's goal is to create a perfectly naturalistic rendering of the subject. To this end, he uses a highly refined technique that allows him to capture every minute detail (the mimosas, the vase, the perfect blending of shadows) while also capturing the vibrations of light, with more impressionistic touches. Despite this, the painter seems to care little about atmospheric rendering, maintaining the entire scene on a glossy surface.
Angelo Bondani displays a high level of academic technique. He remains faithful to a concept of art based on the imitation of nature and allows little subjectivity. His style is therefore highly realistic, yet shows some traces of idealization. His technique also yields to impressionistic hatching, especially when depicting the effect of light on objects.
