Description of the work
Description of the work
The urban landscape was already a popular subject in the Middle Ages and the Modern Age, but predominantly in an idealized manner. Scenes of city life became typical themes with a more realistic interpretation starting in the 19th century. It's worth remembering how, immediately following the realist movements of the 19th century, the Impressionists also placed great emphasis on the everyday, on everyday life, with a certain predilection, however, for the frenetic pace of the city, its crowds, traffic, and typically bourgeois settings. In Angelo Nicolini's views of the city of Verona, the everyday aspect prevails, the frank and sincere realism of everyday life in an urban context.
Angelo Nicolini's style presents a perfect fusion of realism and a delicate, impressionistic rendering of sensory details. On the one hand, the artist precisely describes the view in all its details, with a strong sense of urban reality and the everyday life of simple life. On the other, his refined painting technique allows him to convey a sense of immediacy and poetry to the canvas, thanks to rapid brushstrokes charged with atmospheric vibrations. Light thus reverberates on objects, yet without interfering with the precise description of reality, which is celebrated in all its beauty. The entire view is thus characterized by a clear luminosity that is evident in the pristine atmospheres that always surround Angelo Nicolini's paintings. This is also achieved through the use of a palette of soft, delicate colors, with which Angelo Nicolini creates harmonious polychromes reminiscent of spring.
Angelo Nicolini is a Veronese artist who has devoted most of his painting to views of his city. Nicolini's works are held in private collections in Verona, Italy, and Europe; forty-three solo exhibitions have been held in galleries throughout Italy, and in 2008, the retrospective "50 Years of Romantic Painting" was held at the Palazzo della Gran Guardia. He collaborated on the publication of the book "Voria Cantar Verona" by poet Wanda Girardi Castellani. He was awarded the honorary title of "Academician" by the Convivio delle Belle Arti in Milan and awarded a silver medal by the Medieval Castle of the City of Cologna Veneta.
