Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Angiolo Volpe's style is highly recognizable in his landscape paintings. Color is the protagonist of the composition, delineating shapes and, through subtle gradations of tone, measuring space. The paint is applied in broad patches, and the brushstrokes are filled with light. Indeed, the entire view is bathed in a warm sunlight that blends seamlessly with the entire surface of the painting.
Angiolo Volpe is a Livorno-born painter born in 1943. His work is largely a celebration of his homeland: views of Livorno, seascapes, and the Maremma countryside. His style reflects his origins, which brought him into contact with the Macchiaioli group. He has exhibited his work both in Italy and abroad, always achieving critical and public acclaim.
