Description of the work
Description of the work
Surrealist aesthetics emerged around the 1920s, encompassing all fields of artistic research. In terms of the visual arts, Surrealism sought to explore the human subconscious and translate it into artwork through a mechanical writing process based on dream analysis. Consequently, Surrealist artworks propose the representation of a dreamlike dimension, completely dissociated from reality.
Annamaria Ducaton's surrealist streak develops in a highly original and creative manner. In her works, the mechanical writing process is expressed not only in the creation of a parallel, essentially biomorphic dimension, but also in the simple juxtaposition of objects and shapes (leaves, lace, architectural elements). In most of her works, this is achieved in a minimalist form that focuses on the essence of the representation, in an ordered system of pure lines and colors.
Annamaria Ducaton was born in Trieste to a family where art was a household name. Her mother, a theater and film actress and opera singer, supported and encouraged the artistic inclinations of her two children. Annamaria Ducaton moved from an initial post-cubism inspired by the Casorati school to a natural, highly personal surrealism, identifiable more closely with a magical-fantastic realism. From the age of 18, she exhibited in group exhibitions in her city and region. She participated in meetings between designers and textile manufacturers in Busto Arsizio from 1960 to 1966. She worked for the Ceramiche S. Polo company in Venice and participated at a very young age in the 11th Milan Triennale. She exhibited panels for interior design and, for a limited time, worked in advertising graphics.
