This collection features two very interesting works. The first is an ancient sketch of an angel playing a trumpet. The work was created with an elegant graphic style that, with just a few lines, emphasizes the figure's forms and volumes. The second work is a beautiful antique engraving inspired by the decorative motif of the grotesque, a particular pictorial decoration originating in Rome during the Augustan era and completely ignored, hidden, and destroyed for centuries until it was rediscovered and made famous in the late 1400s when the frescoes of the Domus Aurea came to light. In a cultural environment like that of the 15th and 16th centuries, absolutely predisposed to the recovery of antiquity, this discovery had a profound impact on contemporary artists and patrons. The style is fully consistent with the production of the grotesque. The artist uses a slender, calligraphic line to create a fantastical space constructed of fragile architecture in which cherubs move.
