Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting can be defined as a genre scene, that is, the depiction of an episode of everyday life that, apparently, lacks any significant element. These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones.
Anselmo Pecci's style draws inspiration from expressionist realism. Pecci's synthesis is achieved through a very thick line that outlines the figures and accentuates their physiognomy. The characters in his works are, therefore, women of working-class backgrounds with very pronounced facial features. The color has a very textured, almost earthy consistency, suggesting a connection, not only formally but also spiritually, to a working-class world.
Anselmo Pecci is a painter from Viterbo whose language draws on an expressionist synthesis inspired by popular subjects.
