These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones. Among the most recurring subjects in Antonia Lucchese's watercolor production are evocative urban views and scenes of everyday and popular life.

Artist Antonia Lucchese, specializing in watercolor painting, has masterfully interpreted this technique, enhancing its characteristics in a modern and original vision. This can be seen in her landscapes, in the urban views of Bologna and Venice, or in scenes of everyday life: the painter begins with reality, perhaps that of a photograph, and transfigures it into the intense expressionism of her watercolor technique. Reality thus becomes a total pictorial vibration with decidedly existential overtones, the fruit of an exercise in pure perception on the part of the artist. Formally, this is expressed by maximizing the expressive potential of diluted color. Antonia Lucchese's refined sensibility manifests itself in recording the effect of light on objects, but this exercise is carried out with a strong poetic sense that shapes the representation of sensory data. Thus, light almost dissolves objects, transferring them into the timeless dimension of memory. Light and color work in unison, enhancing the art of watercolor in a coherent representation that maintains its connection with reality but transfers it to a highly lyrical dimension.

Antonia Lucchese, born in Padua on May 21, 1946, lived in Venice for 18 years, where she earned a high school diploma in classical studies. She later moved to Bologna, where, after graduating in Literature and Philosophy and subsequently in Psychology, she taught Psychology for over thirty years. Her passion for art in general has always been central to her interests; after her professional career ended, she was able to devote herself more fully to her innate artistic talent, attending the Academy of Art in Bologna, where she specialized in watercolor. Her extensive body of work has been the subject of numerous exhibitions, receiving encouraging reviews from several respected art critics. Her work has been praised by distinguished critics such as Eugenio Riccomini and Antonio Faeti. Among her admirers is Maestro Wolfango, who considered watercolor to be the most difficult of techniques. Wolf said: "She knows how to tame water, which, on its own, would escape in every direction." We remember the illustrations she created for three books: 'Bologna da scoprire' (BUP ed.), followed by 'Bologna in piazza' (Perdisa ed.) with Tiziana Roversi and Matteo Marchesini, and 'Storia di Amalia' (Pendragon ed.). Antonia Lucchese passed away in Bologna in 2016.
