Description of the work
Description of the work
The portrait is one of the most widespread artistic expressions in the field especially
of painting, but also of sculpture, in all eras. The portrait is, first of all
place, a description of the subject represented, an attempt to bring back to
his physiognomy and his individual characteristics truthfully and naturally.
With the progressive evolution of artistic research towards physiognomic description
of the subject was also accompanied by the psychological one. Therefore the portrait, in
centuries, it has also become a means of introspective investigation on the subject, on the
his character and his state of mind. They intervened in favor of this type
of investigation, the processes of abstraction brought about by contemporary art. The painter
Antonietta Corsini has focused a good part of her research on portraiture. In
In most of his works, the subjects, in the foreground, are characterised by an original rendering that skillfully mixes figuration and abstraction.
In Antonietta Corsini's portraits we can always admire the technical quality
of this painter in the reproduction of the human figure. Antonietta Corsini is
an artist capable of a total naturalistic rendering, characterised by a
very high level of formal purity. The physiognomic features are represented with
great truth in a soft and smooth form. The contours are undefined,
thanks to a fluid layout that allows the subject to interact
naturally with space. From this point of view, moreover, Antonietta
Corsini pushes his research even further, in a direction
extremely original. In many of his compositions it is as if the subjects
were reflected in front of a glass, behind which the beauty of the stands out
landscape. This type of setting allows for further development
the fusion between subject and nature, in a fluid, dynamic and vibrant continuum of
life, also thanks to the aforementioned technical qualities of the painter's draftsmanship.
the final result is a portrait of great aesthetic and visual impact.
which, in addition to respecting the naturalistic rendering of the subject, gives an image of it
fully inserted into the life and beauty of the world.
Antonietta Corsini was born in Rimini, where she lives and works. She graduated in Painting.
at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, he began to exhibit his works at
starting from the 90s. Since his first solo and group exhibitions, the artist
creates essential and evocative images that address, in a careful and
sensitive, the themes of family affections, everyday life and memory.
In the 90s he created a series of Mater that celebrate the theme of
motherhood, female generativity and the unique and sacred relationship that binds
Mother and son. Specialist in ancient painting techniques, she collaborates exclusively with
from 1999 to 2004 with Edizioni Musei Vaticani for the reproduction of some
masterpieces kept in the Vatican Pinacoteca. Corsini thus began to favor
techniques from a distant past, focusing on research and
recovery of procedures derived from ancient treatises, with the aim of evoking
suggestive atmospheres and to obtain unique pictorial effects. In particular, the works
on wood and parchment they resume the use of egg tempera on the background
gilded according to the dictates of tradition. Since 2008, he has been experimenting with art
sacred through works of religious subject and artistic and decorative interventions in
modern places of worship which are characterised by their vitality and modernity
Christian message, interpreted by the artist in the light of his profound spirituality. In parallel with his personal activity, he has been holding courses since 2006
of Painting Techniques of the Rimini School of the 14th Century at the Museum of
Rimini and carries out educational workshops in various schools, as well as moments of
training for art teachers. The museum experience inspires
also the author's research which, through a subtle operation
conceptual, begins to transform his subjects, mostly portraits, into icons
contemporary "classics". The museum is therefore not only for the artist
as a place of contemplation and knowledge, but also a source of inspiration
creative thanks to the ever-present lessons of the great Masters of the past.
Today Corsini is engaged in an increasingly in-depth investigation
on the invisible that hides in the visible, through the use of brushstrokes
expressive and bright and transparent color overlays, in order to
recreate a new dimension evoked by rarefied and spiritual atmospheres.
Thus the private intimate sphere becomes universal and the representation
of everything the artist loves – dear faces and presences that accompany him in the
everyday life – acquires a “different” meaning while the narration, from personal,
becomes everyone's. The latest works, inspired by the tradition of the great watercolorists
English, focus on the theme of love for nature and the desire for
to grasp with a gaze full of amazement the extraordinary that lies hidden
in the ordinary. During and after the lockdown, he organizes online workshops of various
painting techniques for private individuals, schools and associations, both in Italy and abroad
United States, combining them with museum workshops and intense educational activities
for schools of all levels. Antonietta Corsini's works are
preserved in public and private spaces in Italy and abroad.
