Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has always been an artist's aspiration. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. The focus is heavily on the quality of the air and light that characterize this particular time of day and these specific weather conditions. It's noticeable how, to this end, the painter has based the entire composition on a specific color range, using a tonal technique (dear to the Venetian painting tradition) to emphasize the shifts in light and, through them, create space. Due to his immediate and instantaneous rendering, his interest in atmospheric conditions and his use of tonalism in the creation of light and space, Antonino Testa can be considered a view painter, in whose technique, in addition to Venetian tonal painting, an Impressionist influence can also be detected.
