Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

For the painter Antonio Di Michele, naturalistic rendering is a fundamental component of his artistic practice. His primary goal is to convey a realistic and immediate image of the landscape onto canvas. For this reason, his artistic practice is essentially based on a faithful recording of sensory data which, along with an accurate reproduction of the subject from life, also draws on a vigorous lyrical sensibility that leads him to imbue his views with luminous and atmospheric vibrations. Indeed, although, formally, Di Michele's language remains essentially figurative, his touch is nevertheless extremely painterly, aimed at ensuring freshness and immediacy of execution, in keeping with the impressionistic principles of plein air painting. Antonio Di Michele's palette, moreover, still reflects his desire for realism, as it is based on a range of brown and subdued tones, which hark back to the simplicity of the rural world that dominates his works.
Antonio Di Michele was born in Casilenti in 1953, but lives in Borgo Bussana Vecchia, Sanremo. He is a fundamentally impressionist painter who has received several awards throughout his career (the Leone d'Oro Award at the Sanremo Casino, the European International Prize, and the International Trophy in Limone Piemonte). His works are held in various collections in Italy and abroad.
