Description of the work
Description of the work
The subject of Pinocchio is a recurring theme in the works of artist Antonio Nocera, including paintings, prints, and sculptures. The popular character, created by Collodi in 1881, is used by Nocera as an image of a precarious yet playful attitude toward life's uncertainties. Indeed, the figure of Pinocchio, already an emblem of an adventurous yet carefree existence, is always depicted in difficult tightrope-walking positions, perpetually teetering yet consistently lighthearted. The character of Pinocchio is particularly dear to artist Antonio Nocera, who has also created fine illustrated editions of Carlo Collodi's novel.
In this acrylic, Antonio Nocera creates a refined pictorial interpretation of the Pinocchio theme, combining his linear elegance with the expressive power of color. The subject is constructed with the signature line, typical of Antonio Nocera's elongated and tapered figures, in a silhouette with frenetic and broken rhythms, as do the bird figures that complete the composition. The vibrant polychrome that characterizes this work is fundamental, along with the calligraphic strokes that define sinuous movements, underscoring the puppet's balancing acts.
Antonio Nocera was born in Caivano in 1949 and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. His artistic career developed primarily in Milan, where he lived since 1970 and frequented the artistic circles of Brera and the Navigli area. His fame is now international, thanks to the numerous exhibitions in which his paintings have been shown around the world. His themes often draw from fairy tales and legends, creating symbolic subjects that resonate with contemporary reality. Much of Antonio Nocera's work is also inspired by sacred art.
