Antonio Nocera - Nocturne

Surrealist aesthetics emerged around the 1920s and encompassed all fields of artistic research. Specifically, in the visual arts, Surrealism sought to explore the human subconscious and translate it into artwork through a mechanical writing process based on dream analysis. Consequently, Surrealist artworks proposed the representation of a dreamlike dimension, completely dissociated from reality.

This work is part of a series in which Nocera has developed an iconographic theme related to bizarre planets populated by small dwellings and trees. In this piece, Nocera uses acrylics for an interpretation that leans more toward material expressionism. Formal synthesis is accentuated, and the objects are stripped back in an aesthetic that prioritizes chromatic and material values.

Antonio Nocera was born in Caivano in 1949 and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. His artistic career developed primarily in Milan, where he lived since 1970 and frequented the artistic circles of Brera and the Navigli area. His fame is now international, thanks to numerous exhibitions around the world where his paintings have been featured. His themes are drawn from fairy tales and legends, creating symbolic subjects that resonate with contemporary reality.
