Description of the work
Description of the work
The iconography of this painting certainly has allegorical meanings and can be defined, in some ways, as symbolist precisely because of its allusion to underlying meanings. It is a type of subject that can be traced back to the artistic language of late nineteenth-century painters such as Moreau or Odilon Redon, who, in addition to complex iconography, also sought a certain formal abstraction.
This work embodies the distinctive features of Antonio Nocera's aesthetic and his conception of the representation of the human figure. The physiognomy is reduced to a minimum, delineated by a very thin line that almost seems to break. In this elegant calligraphy, attention is drawn precisely to the linear rhythms that characterize the composition. This is the basis for the elegantly elongated forms that characterize Nocera's figures.
Antonio Nocera was born in Caivano in 1949 and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. His artistic career developed primarily in Milan, where he lived since 1970 and frequented the artistic circles of Brera and the Navigli area. His fame is now international, thanks to numerous exhibitions around the world where his paintings have been featured. His themes are drawn from fairy tales and legends, creating symbolic subjects that resonate with contemporary reality.
