Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
The paintings of Antonino Pecoraro are distinguished by a landscape construction that is essentially achieved through color. The artist, in fact, constructs the spatial environment solely through the tonal values of color. Depth is perceived through brushstrokes, which, through rapid, patchy application, create different planes in which the objects are distributed. All this makes the work coherent and unified: the entire surface of the painting is homogeneous through atmospheric and pictorial values, and even the female figures are harmonious and protagonists. However, this exploration of the expressive values of color often leads Antonino Pecoraro to highly original results. The artist's research, in fact, focuses on the use of colors that transcend the naturalistic, acquiring emotional, if not downright symbolist, meanings. This is particularly evident in the female figures that often appear in Pecoraro's works, which are depicted with tenderness.
Antonino Pecoraro was born in 1927. He has participated in numerous exhibitions, including those at the Palazzo del Congresso at EUR, Rome, in 1971 and 1973, San Remo, 1975, and in Rome at the Cadal, Ciangottini, and Zodiaco galleries. He also exhibited in Paris, New York, and Caracas. In 1981, a solo exhibition, curated by Biagio Fichera, was held in the rooms of the Castello Colonna in Genazzano (Rome). He has received numerous awards.
