Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Antonio Sannino is a Neapolitan painter born in 1959. Initially self-taught as a painter, he pursued a classical and naturalistic landscape style. Later, after a period spent in the United Kingdom, he internationalized his artistic language, creating urban landscapes in a more expressionist and vibrant manner. In 2011, he was selected by Vittorio Sgarbi to participate in the 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale (Italian Pavilion – Ex Tobacconist Centola – Salerno). In 2016, one of his eleven-meter-long paintings sparked the reappropriation of the Royal Palace of Caserta's rooms for contemporary art exhibitions.
