Description of the work
Description of the work
Interior views are quite common among the subjects of artworks. Consider, for example, the many paintings depicting the artist's studio, such as Courbet's famous "Atelier." In other cases, painters have drawn inspiration from the intimate spaces of their lives, a prime example being Van Gogh's "The Room." But much more often, for an artist, portraying an interior takes on a symbolic meaning, especially when it appears emptied of human presence and the objects become images of memory.
The style of the painter Armando Spadini displays a fully developed Post-Impressionist maturity. The composition is entirely compressed into the foreground, without any concessions to spatial depth. The painter's aim is not to capture the sensory aspect of objects, but to capture their very essence, their substance. To this end, the brushstroke, rich in texture, plays a key role, fleshing out the objects despite the simplicity of the representation, capturing the vibrations of light and life within them. The brushstroke also has a highly structural function, with touches of color arranged on different levels to construct the volumes. In terms of color, Armando Spadini stands out for his choice of brown tones, typical of the Roman School.
Armando Spadini, born in Florence in 1883 and died in Rome in 1925, was one of the most important representatives of the Roman School. He trained in his hometown at the Scuola Libera del Nudo. He moved to the capital in 1910, dedicating himself to landscapes and portraits. By 1913, he was already a member of the First Roman Secession. In 1916, the City of Rome purchased one of his works. In 1924, Armando Spadini achieved definitive recognition with a solo exhibition at the 14th International Art Exhibition of the City of Venice.
