The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consists of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While in its early days it was an opportunity for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art the "Still Life" also became a way of interpreting reality, as it was for the Cubists or Giorgio Morandi. The artist's primary concern is to convey an immediate, instantaneous image of the vase of flowers, at a precise moment in time, under specific lighting conditions. To achieve this, the painter uses rapid, rapid brushstrokes, almost sketching the shape of the flowers, yet lingering on every single luminous vibration of the petals. Color, fundamental to this exploration, has the task of revealing on the canvas every possible interaction of the object with the surrounding atmosphere. Due to the type of technique used, the immediacy of the work, and the interest in representing the vibrations of light on objects, this unknown artist can be said to have been influenced by Impressionist painting.
