Description of the work
Description of the work
In the history of art, a clear distinction can often be made between figurative and abstract stylistic movements. However, when an artist's goal is to represent an object that resonates with phenomenal reality but is also charged with hidden and symbolic meaning, this boundary can become blurred. Symbolism and Expressionism are emblematic stylistic movements in their conceptual interpretation of reality, with an iconic rendering of images and a symbolic interpretation in the use of color.

As we can see, the artist who created this painting, in his conception of artistic creation, necessarily begins with reality, which is then transfigured through the expressive and symbolic potential of color. In this work, it is as if the artist were reviving the poetics of the typically New Dada object, transforming a common, everyday product into a work of art (Arman's experiments with violins are famous in this regard). However, in the present painting, the operation is accomplished entirely pictorially, and the object, rather than being physically placed on the canvas, is reproduced. Obviously, the application of the paint refers to a gesture typical of American Abstract Expressionism, with the addition of highly symbolic, sign-based indications. In particular, the reiteration of the bow creates a geometric pattern that introduces a further element of hermeticism.
The artist behind this painting is characterized by a figurative language aimed, however, at an experimental aesthetic. His conception of artistic creation, in fact, draws on the poetics of New Dada and Abstract Expressionism in a personal definition that also implies a certain symbolic sense of geometry.
